The King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) is a non-profit global institution dedicated to independent advisory and research into energy economics, policy, technology, and the environment across all types of energy. KAPSARC’s mandate is to advance the understanding of energy challenges and opportunities facing the world today and tomorrow, through unbiased, independent, and high-caliber advisory and applied research. KAPSARC seeks an analytically strong researcher to lead and contribute to life cycle assessment (LCA) studies of transport fuels and systems. The objective would be to provide quantitative results for energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, criteria air pollutant emissions, and water stress across the life cycles of transport fuels and systems.

The successful candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary team of urban and land-use planners, economists, and GIS experts to develop an effective analytical platform to make informed insights on the potential implications of a planning or strategic decision to a variety of stakeholders in the Saudi energy ecosystem.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelor´s or Master's degree in Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, or transportation/civil or geomatics engineering with coursework and/or research experience in land use and urban planning, or urban economics With 10+ years of relevant experience
  • PhD degree in Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, or any other related field. With 5+ years of relevant experience

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Collect and synthesize information about urban areas in Saudi Arabia, as required. 
  • Provide support to develop, implement, and calibrate advanced spatial economic models with an energy focus. 
  • Manage a geo-database to process large scale data, calibration routines, and model outputs post-processing and visualization
  • Incorporate engineering and urban planning principles and advanced mathematical and statistical estimation techniques into the modeling algorithms, design data structures, and script the platform.
  • Contribute to the advancement of modeling techniques and automation toolsets for improving modeling productivity.
  • Organize run results and extract the model indicators as per the business needs.
  • Communicate results to stakeholders through well designed presentations.
  • Publish peer-reviewed journal articles and discussion papers.
  • Present results at conferences and workshops.
  • Knowledge of land use, discrete choice modeling and statistical estimation, spatial economic and travel behavior modeling.
  • Adept in GIS software packages, such as ArcGIS Pro and QGIS, and demonstrated experience in handling large-scale spatial data.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python, YAML, Java scripts or similar languages.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
  • Good communication skills and an enthusiastic team player.
  • Experience in a spatial-economic land-use modeling framework, such as PECAS, is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and publish peer-reviewed journal publications is a plus.
